The teacher training school, called ‘Preparandija’ in Dubrovnik, was initially located in the Old Town since early 19th century. In 1901, the current Preparandija building was constructed by a German architect Kuno Weidemann and was ceremonially opened on October 4, 1901. Until 1970, the Preparandija housed various educational institutions, from kindergarten and primary school to secondary school. On April 6, 1970, the University of Zagreb established the Centre for Postgraduate Studies (PSD) in this historic building, situated at three minutes walk from the Dubrovnik Old Town and Pile Gate. In February 1972, a formal agreement was signed between the University of Zagreb and the Municipality of Dubrovnik, transferring the building and property to the University exclusively for the needs of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies and other forms of university and educational activities. This centre today bears the name Centre for Advanced Academic Studies (CAAS) and the Preparandija building also houses two other academic institutions: Inter-University Centre and Libertas International University.

Accessibility & Transport

CAAS can be reached by public transport since the local bus station is in front of the Pile Gate. Dubrovnik airport is 17 km away and is connected with regular shuttle or taxis. The shuttle stop is at the central bus station which is connected by local buses with the Pile Gate. Beside the local taxi companies in Dubrovnik you can also use Bolt and Uber.
